Chainstay brake mounts on a bmx bike

whats the difference between brake mounts on the chainstay and the seatstay. what are the pros an cons? is one better than the other?

  1. Hm. Lemme think about this.

    Usually, BMX bikes that have seat stay mounted brakes are primarily for racing while chain stay mounted brakes are used on freestyle bikes.

    Seat stay mounted models are almost always linear pull (V) brakes which provide positive stopping power while chain stay brakes are usually U brakes which provide precise modulation but usually won't stop you very well.

    Seat stay brakes allow more clearance for dirt (since the bike is designed for playing in the dirt) while chain stay brakes are to keep them out of the way of the rider but rarely provide good mud clearance.

    So, there you go. Different brakes, different applications.
