Chairman of Selectors happy with West Indies ‘A’ team’s performance – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clyde-Godfrey-Butts-c51354, West Indies Cricket Board's chairman of selectors, is delighted with the ‘A’ team’s performance at home against India ‘A’ and is optimistic about the future of Caribbean cricket.
The young West Indies ‘A’ defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 ‘A’ in the recently concluded unofficial Test series by a margin of 2-1 and dominated the series through some inspirational performances in all three departments of the game.
After dominating the cricketing world in 1970s and 80s, the islanders have gone through a massive slump in the previous couple of decades. A team which had the ability to scare oppositions at their prime is no more a force to reckon with in international cricket.
Butts, who was an off-spinner in his playing days, is over the moon with the performance of his young guns. The chief selector thinks that this victory will go a long way in reviving the glory of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket.
"The A Team programme in the West Indies is about development and looking at the resources available as we build towards the future in West Indies cricket. It is also about being competitive against all opponents we face," said the chief selector.
The senior team is currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where they lost the Test series by a margin of 0-2 and with one match being played today at Leeds, England have already sealed the series by winning the initial two fixtures.
There are some talented cricketers coming through the ranks of Caribbean cricket off-late, like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, who bode well for their side's resurgence.
Butts added that the board is working extremely hard to nurture the fresh talent, which can take the islanders’ cricket forward.
"The WICB has set out a policy of development and where we want to go. This series win and some of the individual performance were steps in that direction and we are confident that we are on the right path," the former West Indies off-spinner said.
