Chaitanya K. P. ousts Abhijit Mittal in qualifying round of Junior National Badminton Championship
Boys’ Singles expert Chaitanya K. P. continued his unbeatable run in the 37th Junior National Badminton Championship as he cleared the qualifying round on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
He intercepted Abhijit Mittal en route to the main round by registering the decisive figures of 21-17 and 21-15.
This crucial tussle was staged at the local badminton complex of Imphal and it concluded in just 19 minutes.
The victorious shuttler did not lose focus at any stage of the battle and wrapped this showdown with a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, Abhijit Mittal put a decent effort but luck was not on his side as he had to bid farewell to this tournament.
In the opening game, he took off in perfect manner and got into commanding position but his supremacy was short lived as the opposing shuttler counter-balanced the situation with a gutsy knock.
Initially, Abhijit looked in prime touch as he bagged many points at steady pace and his challenger kept trailing behind on the points table.
However, he could not maintain this momentum and blundered just before the interval. He let many valuable points slip from his hands and weakened his grip.
At this stage, Chaitanya showed an elevated craft and tipped the scale in his favour. He ruled the court in few consecutive rallies and put his rival under huge pressure.
Though, Abhijit strived hard to come out of this deficit but he had to surrender when scoreboard flashed concluding margin of 21-17.
The following game kept the audience intact until half time as it proved a one-sided affair after the mid-game break.
In first half of the set, both contenders put all in their possession to gain an early advantage but neither of them could enjoy a permanent lead.
They snapped at each other’s heels and remained close in score position until the announcement of a break.
Chaitanya picked up some speed in third quarter of the set and left his competitor far behind by making a significant difference.
He maintained the upper hand all the way to game point situation and sealed his victory with an impressive total of 21-15.
