  3. Sarah was too agitated to sit so she paced back and forth on the verandah, eyeing her brother with disgust.

    "Don't kowtow to those poltroons,!" she said, snapping her fan open and waving it vigorously under her chin.  "Challenge them and they will back down like the yellow dogs that they are!"

    "If I had but a paucity of your courage dear sister, we would be rid of them already.  Alas, I am the weak and cowardly sibling, hiding behind my sister's generous skirts hoping for a better tomorrow," Royce said, hoping his sugar laced confession would sit well with  Sarah.

    "If you had a whit of ambition or integrity we would not be in this mess in the first place", she charged, turning from him in disgust and heading inside.
