  1. To my knowledge there is no state that will allow an LPN to challenge boards. Despite all your extensive work experience, the fundemental role of the RN is quite different. Many LPNs who return to finish an RN or BSN bridge program find themselves shocked at how much more there is to learn. The nursing process, founded upon ADPIE (Assessment, Diagnosis, Plan, Interventions, and Evaluation) are the core of RN practice and is not taught by LPN programs.

Those LPN to RN programs are only a year long. If you've been working for 20 years you are ahead of the game in many ways and school shouldn't be that difficult to complete.

I could be wrong about challenging the exam, and would be happy to learn about it if it is possible.

    Good luck!

  2. Jill is correct.  There are many LPN to RN programs that you can challenge the coursework and possibly finish sooner, but most have a max of about 30 semester hours.

    GOOD LUCK!
