Challenging task for Nathan Robertson - Jenny Wallwork to win crown at the 2011 World Championships
England’s Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork face a challenging task to win the Mixed Doubles crown at the 2011 World Championships, which will kick-off from Monday, August 8, in London, England.
World Number Eight in the international rankings, Robertson and Wallwork are seeded at number 10 in the category of Mixed Doubles at the World Championships. They are the only seeded shuttlers from England, as there no other English player who could grab
a seeded position in all categories of the game.
The 34-year-old Robertson, who won the Mixed Doubles title with her partner, Gail Emms at the 2006 World Championships, is now playing with Wallwork as Emms retired from competitive badminton.
While talking about their seeded position in the mega event, Robertson said, “It’s a shame we’re not in the top eight, but we’ve beaten four of the top 10 pairs already this year. If we can pick up a favourable draw and reach the quarter finals then we can
cause problems for the remaining pairs if we play our A Game.”
He further added that the couple will not like playing against Chinese and Danish shuttlers in the early rounds, as it will become very tough to beat their experienced opponents. Robertson and Wallwork have got a first round bye, which will give them more
time to accommodate themselves with the conditions of the hall and get prepared for the second round battle.
Wallwork said that the home crowd support will be helpful in making the pair confident in the event. She said, “Home support can give you such a boost. The World Badminton Championships are such a huge event to be held in London and I’m sure it’s going to
be a great spectacle at Wembley Arena.”
All shuttlers from all over the world are ready to shine in the mega event, which will begin from Monday at the famous Wembley Indoor Arena. The English couple is also optimistic for their better performance at the world meet, as they are among the top contenders
in their respective category.
