Challis Wright claims Men’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day six - South African LC Nationals
Challis Wright of CGA-CG claimed gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on sixth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Saturday, April 21.
The 20-year-old Wright spoiled the party of his competitors by occupying gold medal of the discipline in a comfortable manner.
With his alluring efforts, he remained 0.30 seconds faster from his following swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 34.98 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Sipho Mjoka of KZNA-KZ, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 35.28 seconds.
Mjoka, the 23-year-old was chased by Shaun Smit of WPA-WP, who proved his mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by occupying bronze medal of the discipline with the timing of 36.37 seconds.
The 19-year-old Smit was chased by his team-member, Valentino Vergotine, who finished fourth in the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 37.57 seconds.
Vergotine, the 24-year-old was followed by Michael Swartz of BOR-BO, who stayed nearly 0.75 seconds slower and ended his swim in fifth best place by clocking a time of 38.25 seconds.
On the other hand, Kevin F Paul of EP-EP dominated the Men’s 50m breaststroke playoff in S1-S13 Multi-Class category. The 20-year-old Paul snatched gold medal of the event with the timing of 30.32 seconds.
He was followed by Joe Van Heerden of NCASA-NC, who stayed nearly four seconds slower from foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 34.58 seconds.
Heerden was trailed by Hendrik van der Merwe, who claimed bronze medal of the event with the timing of 44.34 seconds.
The 21-year-old Merwe was chased by Branco Castelo, who stayed 0.15 seconds behind and ended fourth with the timing of 44.49 seconds.
Castelo, the 22-year-old was chased by Tadhg Slattery, who secured fifth position of the event with an effort of 45.15 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders were awarded accolades after the session.
