Challis Wright pockets Men’s 50m freestyle gold: Day three -
South African LC Nationals
Challis Wright of CGA-CG pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on third day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Wednesday, April 18.
The 20-year-old Wright demonstrated his extraordinary efforts in the single lap freestyle discipline. With his alluring skills, he managed to edge out his following swimmer and his team-member, Craig Groenewald over the finishing end for gold medal.
Wright’s epic start played a key role in placing him slightly ahead of his challengers and he touched the wall with an effort of 26.62 seconds for gold medal of the discipline.
His title-claiming struggle was trailed by Groenewald, who stayed just 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 26.64 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Avron Manchest of WPA-WP, who remained almost half body length slower from the second position holder and hit the wall with the timing of 27.11 seconds.
Manchest was chased by Sipho Mjoka of KZNA-KZ, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower from the bronze medallist and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 27.29 seconds for fourth position.
Following that, Charl Bouwer of WPA-WP snatched gold medal of the equivalent event in Men’s Multi-Class S1-S13 category.
The 22-year-old Bouwer stayed considerably faster from his challenger and tapped the wall with the timing of 24.38 seconds.
His magnificent effort was trailed by Daniel Dias of BRA-ZZ, who stayed nine second slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 33.38 seconds.
Dias was trailed by Hendrik Herbst of WPA-WP, who seized bronze medal of the single lap event by posting a time of 26.86 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was secured by Kevin F Paul of EP-EP, who ended his swim with an effort of 25.68 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the championship will continue for four more days and will conclude on April 22 after the completion of all planned events.
