Challis Wright seizes Men’s 50m butterfly gold medal: Day six - South African LC Nationals
Challis Wright of CGA-CG seized gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly in the Multi Class category of S14-S15 on sixth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Saturday, April 21.
The 20-year-old Wright went on a rampage in the single lap butterfly event as he gathered gold medal of the event by posting a time of 28.27 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 0.69 seconds faster from his following swimmer, Craig Groenewald, who settled on the finishing end for silver medal by posting a time of 28.96 seconds.
Groenewald, the 33-year-old was trailed by Sipho Mjoka of KZNA-KZ, who proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 29.60 seconds.
The 23-year-old Mjoka was followed by Ethan M Paulse of WPA-WP, who settled on the finishing end for fourth position by clocking a time of 30.70 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Avron Manchest of WPA-WP, who emerged on the finishing wall by producing a time of 30.33 seconds.
Manchest was followed by Steven Venter of KZNA-KZ, who seized sixth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 33.46 seconds.
On the other hand, Daniel Dias dictated terms to his opponents in the Men’s 50m butterfly in the Multi-Class category of S1-S13.
The 23-year-old Dias went full throttle in the single lap butterfly event and gathered gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 36.24 seconds. With his notable efforts, he remained slightly ahead of his strongest challenger, Mpho Mainganye of CGA-CG.
Mainganye, the 20-year-old was just 0.11 seconds slower from the gold medallist as he touched the wall with the timing of 36.35 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Jo van Heerden of NCASA-NC, who posted a time of 33.00 seconds for bronze medal of the discipline.
In addition, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all listed events whereas the position holders were called upon the medal distribution rostrum at prize ceremony of the championship.
