Chamakh set to improve for Arsenal
Arsenal's new signing Marouane Chamakh has said that he is well on his way to settling in at his new club, and that his form can be expected to improve once he does.
The 26-year-old Chamakh joined Arsenal from Bordeaux this summer after spending ten years at the French club.
"I am delighted to be back in my country as an Arsenal player," Chamakh said to skysports.com from the Moroccan national team's training camp. "I am settling in well and the coach [Arsene Wenger] is doing his best to make me feel welcome at the club."
Physical threat in attack
The striker was born in France but has chosen to represent his native Morocco in international football, for whom he made his senior debut in 2003.
Wenger signed Chamakh after seeing his impressive performances for Bordeaux last season. The striker's form in the Champions League was especially compelling, as he scored 5 goals in 9 games in the competition, including two against Olympique Lyonnais in the quarter finals.
With his aerial threat and commanding stature, Wenger hopes Chamakh will add a dimension to Arsenal's attacking formation.
The Moroccan has made a bright start to his first Premier League season. In the first round, Chamakh stressed Liverpool keeper Jose Reina into fumbling Arsenal's equaliser into the net, and he opened his scoring account in the following game against Blackpool.
Chamakh: Expect more
Chamakh said that he expects his own form to improve as he gets to know his new environment and teammates better. "I know that once I get settled, my game will improve a lot. The players have welcomed me also and I feel part of the family and the morale in the squad is good."
Having gone without any silverware since the 2004-2005 season, Wenger is under pressure to turn his squad's tremendous potential into results this year. For Chamakh, the domestic league is the highest priority.
"We want to win the Premier League this season and we are all focused on that."
Arsenal face Bolton in their next league game on 11 September.
