Chamberlain Bridge to retrieve form in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs on 5th May
The Grade 3, $125,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint has attracted a highly versatile line-up of eleven runners with the brightest contestant being Chamberlain Bridge and his fiercest rival being Bridgetown who scored second in the race last year.
The five furlongs’ race at The Matt Winn Turf Course at Churchill Downs will see Chamberlain Bridge, War Chant’s eight-year-old gelding out of mare, She’s Got Class, attempting the race for a fourth time.
W. Bret Calhoun’s under charge is most famous for conquering the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on 6th November, 2010 at Churchill Downs over five furlongs. The distance could not bind the eight-year-old even for a complete minute as it took
him :56.53 seconds to race through the wire.
War Chant’s offspring’s first invite at the Grade 3 Twin Spires Turf Sprint saw him clearing the five furlongs distance in :57.06 seconds. On 1st May, 2009 at Churchill Downs, Cannonball secured the second position and was followed by Smart Enough.
However Chamberlain Bridge could not defend the title in 2010 but did manage a decent second position on 30th April at Churchill Downs. The Grade 3 Twin Spires Turf Sprint was won by Silver Timber who took :55.45 seconds to settle the race.
The 2010 season proved to be the luckiest for Chamberlain Bridge who bagged five races out of the eight outings through the season. It was obviously during this year that he added his profile highlight by winning the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
In 2011 his performance deteriorated to a third position in the same race that he had been taking part in since the last two years. The race was won by Regally Ready and qualifying as the runner up was Bridgetown who is returning this year round for improvising
the outcome which can only get better if he wins the race.
Owned by Carl R. Moore Management LLC, the eight-year-old gelding has not been able to post a victory through the two ventures that he undertook during the new season.
He scored second in the seasonal debut that came his way in the form of Colonel Power on 25th February over five and a half furlong at Fair Grounds. His next attempt was a downright failure which resulted in a seventh position.
How will the three previous tries help out Chamberlain Bridge in the fourth attempt will unfold soon.
