Question:

Chamomile and miscarriage?

I recently had a miscarriage (4days ago) I am feeling very guilty because I had took a cup of chamomile tea earlier in the month right before they told me that they could not find a fetal pole or heartbeat. This had been going on since 6/7/08. Doctors assure me it had nothing to do with it, but I read a web page where it says that chamomile can terminate pregnancy that is suppose to be a stimulant for your menstrual period. Other pages say is safe to take during pregnancy. I want to believe what the doc says, but can't stop thinking that the tea had something to do with it. I feel extremely guilty. Any doctors out there?

  1. I am so sorry for your loss.  I know you must be devastated.  I don't believe it had anything to do with the tea.  I drank chamomile all throughout my pregnancy and I know my OBGYN did not have this on the list of foods to avoid.  Please do not beat yourself up over this.

  2. Eeeek! I've never heard of that. I am a victim of recurrent pregnancy loss and I am currently having a successful pregnancy. Oddly enough, during my first trimester, I was guzzling chamomile tea like it was going out of style! But all is well with baby. I don't think that this may have caused harm to your baby. I'm really sorry to hear about your loss but don't feel guilty. This could have happened for a variety of uncontrollable reasons.

  3. I'm not a doctor but I drank chamomile throughout my pregnancy and it didn't do any harm.  As a woman who has previously experienced a miscarriage my heart goes out to you, but do not blame yourself. Good luck getting pregnant again.

  4. not a DR but it was so not the tea, in the begining when all the chromosomes are spliting at a rapid pace something got a little messed up and the baby couldnt grow without that genetic information. That is what most of all m/c are about something just got a little off. Like trying to dial a # without all the digits its just cant be connected. This happens to most of all women. It was noones fault

  5. ive heard that myth as well but i dont believe that a cup of tea caused your pregnancy to terminate
