Champagne Eddie?

This weekend this happened to us in a rafting trip. While it provided gobs of excitement, and a scared guide and an almost capsized raft.... I wanted to know exactly what happened.

I tried searching for websites but nothing showed up. Do you rafters know what causes this?

Never heard the term. I'm assuming that the water became very bubbly (therefore less dense) and part of your raft sank down. All eddies, and the strangeness within them, are caused by hydraulics. You think its scary in a raft? Try being in a squirt boat when one half of the boat is on calm water and the other is on water being pushed up by a hydraulic.
