Champagne headache?

What is it that causes champage/wines to give a severe headache the day after a little indulgence? Is it the preservatives? Spirits traditionally dont cause such nasty sore heads.

the number one reason is alcohol related. The alcohol in beer, wine, and spirits is ethanol and NOT methanol. Some people are just so stupid.

Ethanol in beer, wine , and spirits (distilled booze, aka hard alcohol) dehydrates the body. In doing so the body losing amino acids, vitamins, and electrolytes and of course mainly water. It is the loss of these need things that cause headaches.

yeah it is also sulfur containing compounds which many people are allergic to but most people are not. And also some darker alcohol products have natural congeners that contribute to headaches.

some wine contains sulfite, which may cause a reaction for many (i.e. headache).  Inexpensive wine & champagne also can have that effect.

some contain sulphites which alot of people are sensitive to ,,its usually in the cheaper drinks .dark drinks are more likely to give you hangovers than light ones ,drink lots of water before you sleep as alcohol shrinks the brain which can cause a headache and if you drink water it goes back to the right size ,bit like a sponge ..

cheap spirits tend to cause headaches and you need to eat before you drink.

Red wine can cause headaches (or allergic reactions) because of the antihistamines.  Cheap champagne just tastes terrible and isn't worth the headache.  If you drink Piper Heidseck (sp?), believe me, you WON'T get a headache!

It's the methanol that's fermented but not removed also known as methyl alcohol. And if taken in higher dosage can cause blindness
