Champion Stakes at Romford has its finalist
The racing on Friday night at Romford provided punters and racing enthusiasts with an entertaining yet surprising turn out as the stadium staged the three semi-finals of the Coral Champion Stakes (575m), which now has its final six, one of which will claim the £10,000 prize next Wednesday.
Punters were warned about being cautious when betting as the recent list of winners has been a surprise to us all. Last night was no differ, although if there’s one man you can have faith in, its Champion trainer Mark Wallis.
The Lakenheath-based trainer won the English Derby last year with Kinda Ready who was a 25-1 shot, anyone to have backed All That Noise in the first semi would pretty much be laughing right now as the dog scored in 35.89sec to beat favourite Raving Black (11-10) by over a length, priced at 14-1.
Wallis was on the mark again in the second semi when another Imperial kennels star’ Bourne Mason (4-1) zapped to the first bend and led to cross the mark in 35.54sec and out pace yet another favourite’ Centurion Enry (5-4) by over two lengths.
Adageo was a strong fancy in the third semi whose price also shortened to 11-4 making him the favourite, but Wallis was denied three out of three after his charge in the stripes failed to make the break and missed out on a qualifying spot by two and a half lengths.
Bubble Verdasco (6-1) from trap three and Kildallon Bound (4-1) from trap two were the early pace setters who secured the there place in next weeks finals. Pauls Young’s trap three star claimed the race when setting a time of 35.57sec
Draw for Wednesday's Final:
T1 Kildallon Bound, T2 Raving Black, T3 Bubbly Verdasco, T4 Bourne Masons, T5 Centurion Enry (m), T6 All That Noise (w).
