Champion colt Duncan lands the Yorkshire Cup – Horse Racing Update
Champion colt Duncan claimed the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup held on Friday, May 13 at the York race-course.
This Group 2 event was contended by race-horses of age four and above and was run over a distance of one mile and six furlongs.
Throughout the race it was seen that the winner was struggling not to give up his place in the lead as he made every inch of the race enjoyable for the fans of the sport and all those involved in the business of horse-racing. Duncan finished the race in
impressive fashion and pleased his trainer John Gosden and jockey William Buick.
This was the first time that Duncan started a race over the aforementioned distance. Nonetheless, at the end of the race the jockey was pretty much satisfied with the stamina that was maintained by his mount throughout the race. Duncan was sent out to take
part in this meeting at odds of 11-4. He was seen to hold off all the other competitors on the field during the last two furlongs of the race as he became more determined than ever to bag victory in the Yorkshire Cup. The race-horse who followed Duncan was
the 25-1 favourite Blue Bajan. He finished the race in the second spot, a distance of half a length behind the winner.
The third place finisher was Manighar. He was backed at odds of 7-1 for this race.
On the other hand, the other prominent race-horse of this meeting was the trainee of the famed trainer Henry Cecil, Native Ruler. He gave a good performance at the beginning of the race, but he faded out towards the end and could only manage to stay in the
fourth position. Askar Tau was also powerful at the beginning but then weakened out to the sixth spot.
According to the trainer of the winning race-horse, the champion will be aiming for the Ascot Gold Cup after he gave a spectacular performance at the York racecourse on Friday.
It will be interesting to see how Duncan is able to maintain his winning momentum for the next race of the season.
