Champions League: Arsenal v Shakhtar Donetsk half time report
Arsenal 2 Shakhtar Donetsk 0
Arsenal have barely had to get out of first gear to lead 2-0 against a poor Shakhtar Donetsk midway through a low-key night at the Emirates Stadium.
Alex Song profited from a dreadful error from visiting goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov to bundle the hosts in front via a deflection off a defender, before the Cameroonian’s cross was allowed to reach Samir Nasri, who crashed home his side’s second from close range shortly before the break.
The Ukrainians have barely threatened the hosts, as the Gunners have been allowed to knock the ball around without seriously testing their visitors aside from scoring their goals. Forward Marouane Chamakh came close to connecting with two crosses, while Nasri saw a fierce effort saved by Pyatov.
With Shakhtar playing this badly, Arsenal will be confident of second half goals.
