Champions League – Bangalore burst out of blocks
The Royal Challengers Bangalore held on to some of their biggest international stars for the Champions League and it’s a move that looks set to pay dividends for the IPL side in the competition, if their opening match is anything to judge by.
Bangalore asserted their contractual right to maintain the services of Victorian Bushrangers captain Cameron White, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 and Warriors’ Jacques Kallis (who could otherwise all have played for their domestic sides) for the Champions League and it was Kallis who shone in their opening match against Guyana.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 all-rounder took 3-14 from his four overs and followed that up with an unbeaten 43 from 32 balls as Bangalore coasted to a nine-wicket win over the Caribbean side with 46 balls to spare.
Neither White (who was involved in a run-out) or Taylor were required to bat, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737’s side to a comfortable victory to take an early position at the top of the table in Group B.
Sunday’s other match, another Group B fixture, saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 record an 11-run victory over the Lions, with Michael Klinger’s 78 from 48 balls for the Redbacks the cornerstone of their 178-run total against the South African side.
Lightning-fast bowler Shaun Tait then took to the Lions’ batsmen with gusto, and while he conceded 36 runs from his four overs, by the time he’d finished his spell, Tait had also taken three wickets for the innings.
Skipper Alviro Petersen was the top scorer for the Lions, making 56 from 35 balls but it was not enough and by the time the 20 overs were up his side had fallen short, finishing their innings on 167-8.
The Lions now sit at one win and one loss from their two matches, after beginning the competition with a nine-run win over the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians in the Champions League’s opening match.
