Champions League: Braga vs Shakhtar Donetsk 0 – 3; Full time Report (Part 4)

In the 76th minute Paulão was still looking for his team’s opener and for that he got a good cross from Luis Aguiar but the header got blocked.
Braga then missed another opportunity to score when Silvio came up with a cross to Lima who did head it but the ball went pass just inches away on the left.
After the 80th minute mark Darijo Srna struck a combination with Eduardo and he headed a good effort into the left of the goal posts but the goal keeper got there in time to make the save.
In the 83rd minute Shakhtar had not changed their play to a defensive one and were looking score more goals. Henrikh Mkhitaryan tried to play a through ball to Darijo Srna but he was caught offside by the side line referee.
During the 86th minute Eduardo came up to shoot with Vitaliy Vitsenets passing him a through ball but the player missed the chance yet again.
In the 87th minute Braga’s Matheus was shown a yellow card over a poor challenge. Just two minutes later it was Shakhtar’s player Douglas Costa who was slapped with a yellow card.
After that the 89th minute save on Douglas Costa was made as he insanely tried on to score from a very tight angle. In the 90th
minute Braga were on offence again as Alan orchestrated a combination with Lima but they were unsuccessful.
Seconds later, Braga’s player Willian gave away a penalty because of irrational acts in the danger zone. Along with him was Paulo César who had forgotten his prudent and pragmatic play and as a result was handed a yellow card.
Douglas Costa took up to take the penalty and easily scored from a left footed shot in the net. With that the match referee Kevin Blom ended the match with his whistle leaving the score at Braga 0-3 Shakhtar.
In the end Braga had more shots on goal and shots on target. They had 17 on goal from which 6 were on target. Shakhtar, on the other hand, though won but had 12 shots on goal and 5 on target.
Fouls committed by Braga were 11 and Shakhtar were 12. This shows what a heated and intense match took place between the teams.
There was one place however that shows a very different story and that are the corner kicks. While Braga had just one in the whole match, Shakhtar had 10 of them. This suggests that they were more focused on a game on the wings.
The counter attacks were targeted more too Shakhtar rather than by Braga and 2 to 0 statistics certainly back that.
The ball was possessed by Braga for 44% and by Shakhtar 56%. Even though Shakhtar did possess the ball more, still they had double the number of yellow cards than Braga. Shakhtar had 4 while Braga had just 2.
The saves made were also more by Shakhtar and lesser by Braga. Shakhtar had 6 saves which relayed that Braga desperately need a good finisher. On the other hand Shakhtar made two saves therefore they need better and more creative
midfielders.
