Champions League: Comfortable Chelsea march on
Chelsea 4 Spartak Moscow 1
Branislav Ivanovic struck twice as Chelsea all but qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League with a clinical second half display against Spartak Moscow.
A low key first period was forgotten about when Nicolas Anelka exchanged passes with Salomon Kalou before coolly finishing at the near post to put the Blues ahead, before Didier Drogba both won and scored a penalty to make it 2-0.
Ivanovic powerfully headed in a Drogba free kick and then smashed home a loose ball to confirm the victory – with the Serbian’s goals coming either side of Nikita Bazhenov’s consolation for the Muscovites.
The win makes it four out of four for Chelsea in Group F, with the Blues now six points ahead of both Spartak and Marseille – who remarkably beat MSK Žilina 7-0 in Slovakia tonight in the Champions League’s biggest ever away win.
