In the 11th minute, Torres went on to end his Champions League goal scoring drought. Lampard combined with the forward and played in a perfectly timed and placed low pass into the path of the striker. Torres then showed signs of his former self
as he controlled the ball and the curled the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.
In the 27th minute, the Genk defenders failed to close down Meireles. The midfielder strolled forward into the space that he had and then curled in a delightful cross which was met by Torres, who directed his header into the far post.
In the 42nd minute, Malouda went on to curl a free kick into the box and his delivery was hit with such precision that it picked out Ivanovic in a very crowded penalty area. The defender then turned the cross into the back of the net with an emphatic
header.
In the 73rd minute, Torres nearly scored a hat trick in the game, only to see his effort get cleared by the keeper. Unfortunately for the visitors, the ball fell right into the path of Kalou, who made no mistake from some eight yards out, as he
knocked the ball into the back of the net. In doing so, the forward helped Chelsea secure a five goals to nil win over their opponents.
