Champions League Match Report: Arsenal vs Olympiakos – Part 1
Arsenal played host to Olympiakos at the Emirates in the Champions League and were looking to go all out and pick up the three points against their opponents.
Prior to the game, as many as ten Arsenal players were injured, which caused Arsene Wenger to make some drastic changes to the side. The manager opted to bench http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804 was placed in
the centre back position and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Oxlade-Chamberlain was given his first ever start in a Champions League game.
The match kicked off with Arsenal taking the game to their opponents early on and seemed to really be mixing things up in the game.
Following their early dominance, Oxlade-Chamberlain stepped up in the 8th minute and scored the opening goal of the game for the Gunners.
The winger ran forward at full speed before controlling a ball brilliantly via his chest. He then let the ball drop down in front of him and tuned himself up, before smacking a low left footed shot towards the goal. His effort had ample pace on it and sailed
right into the far corner of the goal.
In the 20th minute of the game, Andre http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santos-c32532 charged forward and played a pass to Chamakh. The striker failed to connect with the ball, but it fell back to the defender, who beat one man before drilling the ball into the goal with his weaker right
foot.
In the twenty seventh minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Fuster-c10486, the Olympiakos player headed a fine effort into the back of the
net.
Following those goals, both teams cancelled each other out for the remainder of the first half and following the referees whistle, headed into the tunnels for the half time break.
Arsene Wenger showed signs of concerns while his team was heading into the tunnel, but being banned from the touchline meant he couldn’t talk to the team till after the game.
