Champions League Match Report: Arsenal vs Olympiakos – Part 2
Following the break, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 took to the pitch feeling a whole lot more calm and composed than they were in the first half. The team were with a one goal lead and hence focused more on defending that lead, instead of going all out right after the whistle.
In the 54th minute, Chamberlain showed some more of his ability, as he dashed down the wing and lifted in a brilliant cross. Arshavin shot at goal, followed by Chamakh taking a pop himself, but both the players failed to find the back of the net.
In the 64th minute, there was a scare for the Gunners as Torosidis zipped forward and cut in from the right. He then bent in a left footed effort from the edge of the box and saw his effort clip the cross bar. What was amazing was the fact that
for a change Szczesny just couldn’t judge the flight of the ball. However, luckily for Arsenal, his effort lacked that little extra swerve that could have seen them draw level in the game.
In the 69th minute, Ramsey played on a brilliant ball, which saw Arshavin zip down the left. The forward then cut in and punted the ball goal wards. However, despite him being a little creative with his darting run and shooting, his effort was
saved by Costanzo.
Following that move from Arsenal, the game drastically slowed down as Arsenal seemed more than happy to keep the ball and just run the clock down.
Olympiakos tried to get back at the Gunners, but with the confidence that the North London team had flowing in them, their opponents just couldn’t get anything out of the game in the end.
As a result, the match eventually ended with Arsenal winning by two goals to one.
The line ups for the game were as follows:
