Champions League Match Report: Manchester City vs Bayern Munich – Part 1
Manchester City played host to Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium, in a Champions League clash which was a must win for the home side.
Should City have lost their game to Munich, they would not have progressed to the next round of the tournament. However, even if the team did win their game, they still needed Villarreal to beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003, in order to ensure their progress to the knock out
stages.
Despite the team not being sure about their future in the Champions League, City were still geared up to take on Munich and were more than willing to go all out against their opponents.
On the other hand, Munich were already confirmed as the top seed from their group and were looking to field a relatively weaker side against City, as compared to the one that crushed the Manchester based team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
City went on to create their first chance of the game in the 7th minute, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Aguero came awfully close to scoring for City. Nasri went on to cross a delightful ball into the area and Aguero managed to get his head onto the ball. However,
he couldn’t manage to get his effort on target as the ball sailed just wide of the mark.
In the 15th minute, Silva whipped in a curling free kick, which was met by Lescott. Despite the ball landing in the back of the net, the referee went on to overturn the goal, due to a foul in the build up by Lescott himself.
City finally managed to get a firm hold on the game, as the team went on to score their first goal of the night in the 36th minute. Dzeko went on to flick a through ball towards Silva, who flicked the ball to his left, before unleashing a fine
shot which sailed into the far corner of the post, leaving the keeper with no chance of keeping the ball out of the net.
Just a few minutes later, Aguero came close to scoring another goal for City. The Argentine danced between the Munich defenders and then hit a fine shot towards the goal. Unfortunately for City, despite the shot being hit on target, it failed to land in
the back of the net thanks to an on the line clearance.
Soon after the referee signalled the end of the first half and despite City being in the lead, they still seemed unsure as to what the future had in store for them.
