Champions League: MŠK Žilina v Chelsea half time report
Žilina 0 Chelsea 3
A ruthless Chelsea have eased into a three goal lead at the midway point of their Champions League tie with Žilina in Slovakia.
Michael Essien opened the scoring when he slotted home from a Nicolas Anelka cutback, before French forward Anelka added two more goals inside four minutes before the half hour mark – first angling in a left footed effort following Florent Malouda’s through ball, before poking home from close range after a John Terry header had been turned onto the crossbar.
The goals reflect the English champions’ dominance, and could have been added to had Malouda’s shot not been blocked by Martin Pecalka shortly before the break.
The hosts, making their Champions League debut, have found the leap up in standard to be a tough one, although Petr Čech had to be alert to keep out an Admir Vladavic effort.
