Champions League News: Champions League trophy in sight for Roma, Francesco Totti
A well-known personality in football has stated that he wants to win the Champions League trophy and bring it back home for his club. When a statement like that is made and made by the captain of
a major footballing team, there are bound to be some high waves and mushroom clouds seen (all) around.
In this case, the captain of Serie A side Roma, Francesco Totti, has said that he wants his team to win the coveted tournament in Europe, the Champions League. He stated that he wants to win the
League despite all odds and in the process defeat other major footballing giants.
Totti, the legend from Rome, has been playing on the (senior) club level since 1992 and is still shining brightly despite retiring from international football at the age of 30. He made his retirement
official at the start of the 2007-08 Serie A season, despite wanting to quit post the 2006 World Cup (which Italy won).
It is said that he retired because of excessive injuries and because he wanted to focus solely on the club he has now been associated with for 18 years.
The famous Italian attacking midfielder has stunned many on the football pitch. With 588 appearances for his club and 249 goals, the player has already entered the history books. Now he wants to
win the coveted trophy before it’s time to hang his boots.
He has stated that he would like to be in the final of Europe’s best next May. If Roma draw against CFR Cluj they will still enter the Last 16 stage of the Champions League from Group E and with
Totti wanting to play the final of the tournament in London at Wembley, a win can be guaranteed.
While talking to the media, the former Italian international stated, “I would like to win the Champions League. I want to do it with this shirt - the one for which I decided to leave the national
team.”
“We cannot make any mistakes. The last 16 are awaiting us - one of our objectives this season," he added.
