Champions League News: Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema happy to have found form
Time indeed has improved the out of favour Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. The Frenchman was once a mere benchwarmer, but with time and patience of the ‘Chosen One’, Jose Mourinho, the player has constantly improved until the
point where he has now found form.
Formerly playing for Lyon, Los Blancos acquired the French international; however, soon after that he lost his form. Many experts stated that it was because of the change from French Ligue 1 to the Spanish La Liga that caused a
fall in his form.
However, now it seems the player has found his former self as he is back to scoring goals as he used to and proof of that is his hat trick against Auxerre in the last match of the knockout stages. Nonetheless, the match did not
bore any importance for Real Madrid as even a loss would have guaranteed their access to the Round of 16.
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema was man of the match as his team defeated Auxerre four to nil at their home in Santiago Bernabeu.
The former self of Benzema was seen in the match as he truly showed colours of th time when he was hailed as the successor, in becoming the saviour of France, after the legendary Zinedine Zidane retired.
In the match, he scored an impressive lob after some clinical finishes. Benzema played full 90 minutes of the encounter, which was a time where the French international made a point to prove himself.
While talking to media Benzema stated, “I am getting better in this team.”
The 22-year-old was exuberant when he stated, “This was my best game as a player of Real Madrid, and I will continue to work hard in order to play more minutes. The important thing was that we won the game, and we are very happy
about this.”
Benzema also made history for Real Madrid in the match as his opener was Los Merengues’s 300th goal in Champions League and doing so, they have become the first team in Europe to have this achievement.
