Champions League Player Ratings: Manchester United vs Valencia – Part 1
These two teams had qualified before their final group game last night. Manchester United only needed a point to ensure they top the group while Valencia were required to collect all three points at Old Trafford if they wanted to finish at the top.
In an openly played game Manchester United created chance after chance and came from a goal down to draw the match 1-1.
Bettor.com has given player ratings after evaluating each player’s performance last night.
MANCHESTER UNITED
Benjamin Amos: 6.0
A big night for the youngster who did not disappoint, Amos was visibly nervous at the start of the match when he took his first goal kick. He couldn’t have done much to prevent Hernandez’s opener.
Rafael Da Silva: 6.5
A good night’s work out for the little Brazilian; Rafael rampaged up and down the right flank all night and joined in attacks to great effect. He was full of running and didn’t put a foot wrong when defending.
Nemanja Vidic: 6.5
A solid, if unspectacular, display from United’s skipper; Vidic looked assured all night and he rarely looked in trouble. He saw out a late Valencia onslaught with reasonable ease.
Rio Ferdinand: 6.0
He is getting old and injury prone. Rio limped off 5 minutes into the second half and we hope it is not a serious blow for England’s captain. His lack of pace was tested by Valencia attackers throughout his time on the pitch.
Fabio Da Silva: 6.0
He did not run the way his brother did on the other flank but he quietly went about doing his job. He defended confidently and used the ball well.
Luis Nani: 6.5
He has taken his game to another level this season. He looked dangerous all night with all his tricks and flicks. Not his best performance of this season but still good enough to have caused Valencia all sorts of problems.
Michael Carrick: 6.0
He is far from the player who dominated United’s midfield, Carrick was slow on the ball and lost the possession on few occasions. However, he improved as the game went on and with Valencia leading by a goal to nil, he saw more of the ball.
Anderson: 7.0
The Brazilian was full of energy and running. Scored a rare goal when he continued with his run into the box and coolly slotted the rebound to put United back on top of the table. His overall performance was much improved.
Ji-Sung Park: 7.5
He was all over the pitch; the diminutive midfielder found pockets of spaces and then used the ball to great effect. He has been in terrific form of late and he linked up well with the rejuvenated Wayne Rooney. It was his ferocious shot which was too hot
for the Valencia goal keeper as he could only punch it in front of Anderson, where he ghosted in to score the equalizer.
Wayne Rooney: 7.5
He showed more than enough glimpses of the Wayne Rooney we are more used to seeing and his drive, desire and powerful running were on show last night. He was denied a goal when his beautifully curled shot came back of the cross bar. He was a constant threat
to the Valencia goal and created loads of chances for his team mates.
Dimitar Berbatov: 6.5
It remains a mystery how Berbatov failed to find the back of the net last night. He could have easily bagged a hat-trick but in truth he failed to put his name on the score sheet. However, his link up play was quite sublime all night.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Chris Smalling: 6.5
Replaced the crocked Rio Ferdinand early on the second half and he slotted in comfortably alongside Vidic. Put in a solid display.
Ryan Giggs: N/A
Replaced Nani late in the game and showed some neat touches.
Darren Fletcher: N/A
He came on late in stoppage time.
