Champions League Preview: Tottenham Hotspur vs Twente Enschede FC (Part 1)
The Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has stated that he has total confidence in the lacking Aaron Lennon. He told that he is positive that the winger will be up and loaded for the Spurs Champions League match against FC
Twente.
The English forward Lennon has been flunking to hit full form in matches since he returned from a groin injury about four months back. The injury that occurred in April has led to the poor form of Lennon and he has failed to hit
the road in top speed again.
This has also troubled him in his club campaign and ultimately trailed him in a poor World Cup endeavour. Club officials, experts and fans have similarly expressed their disappointment in him but the young star has told that he
is ready to make his comeback.
The 23 year old, right winger has often been replaced by the manager in club games this season while the coach of the national team Fabio Capello too has placed him in the far corner of his cupboard waiting for him to reaching
his full heights, a thing that he would anxiously be waiting for after the Three Lions had a miserable FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The boss of the South London based club, Redknapp has yet to decide if Lennon must feature in the A battle. The other option he has to play is Rafael van der Vaart who apart from playing as an attacking midfielder and as a striker
can also be shifted to the right wing.
Nevertheless whatever formations or players Redknapp uses against the Dutch champions, he has expressed his belief that Lennon will pull him out of this haze in the end.
In a press release the 63 year old manager admitted, “He's had the injury and he had a quiet World Cup, really”.
He also told that he confided in the player and admired his capabilities, “I think he's getting over the injury from last season. But he's a match winner on his day and it's very hard to be consistent when you play out in that
wide position, when you've got to beat people every week and people expect you to get the ball and go whizzing past full-backs, cross balls.”
The boss of White Hart Lane also told that he had a few tricks up his sleeve and will be applying some new tactics against the Dutch team. He told that the position on the flank is quite important and he will be looking forward
to capitalize on the wings.
He related, “Full-backs now are as quick as wingers, they get tight, they stop you getting the ball. You've got to work very hard to get on the ball now when you play in that wide position.”
He also stated that he was optimistic about the team’s performance in the tournament even if they were without Lennon, nonetheless he expected him to get over his barriers and rejuvenate, he uttered, “It's not always easy but he'll
come good.”
