Champions League - Preview of the British sides (Part 1)
It was a thrilling match day 2 in the Champions League where the fans saw a mouth watering treat of scintillating football. The match day 3 promises to be no different as the British sides look to take a step closer to the next round of the competition.
Group A:
Internazionale Milan and Tottenham Hotspurs are in pole positions with the group being tied at 4 points apiece and just one goal separating the two sides. Rafael Van Der Vaart was inspirational as Spurs beat the Dutch champions, Twente Enscehede while Inter
eased past Werder Bremen courtesy of a scintillating performance by Samuel Eto.
Samuel Eto grabbed a beautiful hat trick for Inter against Werder to give the defending champions their first win in the competition while Tottenham registered their first win at White Hart Lane in the Champions in 48 years against FC Twente.
Spurs will now play the biggest match of their recent history as they travel to Guesseppe Meazza but Spurs will have to play this match without their midfield Talisman, who is suspended for the game after being red carded in the last game against Twente.
Inter have a full squad available for their match and Spurs will have to pull every trick out of their hat if they are to stand any chance of winning the game.
The other Group A match will be played between Werder Bremen and FC Twente in the Netherlands and a win will be absolutely vital for both the teams as they each have only conjured one point in the competition so far.
Anything less than a win for any of the two sides will almost make it impossible for them to qualify for the next round and both the managers are aware of this fact.
This is Werder's only chance of silverware this season as locally in the Bundesliga, they have fallen off the pace early on and are languishing in the mid-table.
Group C:
Group C plays host to the English giants, Manchester United, who after a disappointing opening day draw against Rangers at Old Trafford, won away to Valencia by a solitary Javier Hernandez goal. This win could only take United to second place in the group
standing as Rangers also won their match on match day 2, beating Bursaspor courtsey of a beautiful goal by Steven Naismith.
Both Rangers and Manchester United are currently tied on points but Rangers lead the table on the basis of their away draw to Man Utd.
On match day 3, Manchester United will welcome the Turkish debutants, Bursaspor to Old Trafford but the environment around the club is quite gloomy as there are speculations in the market about Wayne Rooney walking out and joining their rivals at Manchester
City.
Even on the pitch, things aren't all that rosy for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side as they have drawn their last three games and have conceded a lead of two or more goals on more than three occasions in the league this season.
A win on Wednesday will be the least the fans would demand from their side as another drab performance will not go down well with the fans. Rangers, on the other hand, will play one of the most important clash in their history as they welcome Unai Emery’s
Valencia to the Ibrox on Wednesday.
Valencia are flying high in the Spanish La Liga and are currently rubbing shoulders with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in Spain. Although, the Los Che lost out to Barcelona in their last league outing but the side still has enough firepower to down
Rangers at Ibrox.
