Champions League: Six-goal Arsenal ease to Braga win
Arsenal 6 Braga 0
Both Cesc Fabregas and Carlos Vela struck twice as a dominant Arsenal easily swept aside Portuguese side Braga at the Emirates Stadium.
The result was never in doubt once Braga goalkeeper Felipe upended Marouane Chamakh in the penalty area, allowing Fabregas to open the scoring from the penalty spot inside the first 10 minutes.
Andrey Arshavin and Chamakh both finished off neat passing moves to extend the Gunners’ lead before half time, as their Portuguese opponents simply disintegrated in front of the hosts’ quick passing.
More poor defending allowed Fabregas the space to head home an Arshavin cross in the second period, before substitute Vela grabbed his brace – first lifting an effort over an exposed Felipe following an Arshavin pass, before collecting Fabregas’ ball and slotting home the sixth of the night.
A great night for the hosts then, but they’ll know that much tougher tasks than this lie ahead.
