Champions League: Spartak Moscow v Chelsea half time report
Spartak Moscow 0 Chelsea 2
Yuri Zhirkov’s first goal for Chelsea and Nicolas Anelka’s 50th ensure that the Blues are in full control of their Champions League tie in Moscow at the halfway point.
Russian international Zhirkov fired in an effort from the edge of the penalty area midway through the first period, before Anelka latched onto a precise Michael Essien pass to coolly double his side’s advantage shortly before the break.
Earlier, the hosts had threatened through Dmitri Kombarov and Welliton, but Chelsea have been in full control for the majority of the contest.
Anelka has been guilty of missing two other good chances, while Florent Malouda drove wide.
