The Champions League T20 had its inaugural season conducted last year. Although, there were talks about the success of the tournament commercially as well as the performances, some changes have been introduced into the format of the tournament. This year's tournament takes place in September, from the 10th to the 26th.
The intention behind doing it is to make the tournament more interesting to the viewers as well as the players. Though, the number of matches have remained the same as it was earlier, the grouping of the teams has been reframed. The organizers plan to make it more interactive and entertaining too. So, one can notice the clear intentions of the organizers to make it a commercial success as well.
What the organizers seem to propose is that they will change the format in terms of the squad. Earlier, there were five groups of three teams each who would play in the round robin format and the qualifying teams would go on to make it in the quarter finals and the semi finals of the tournament and eventually leading into the finals.
But, the change that had been proposed and implemented this year that there would be only two groups and consist of five teams each and would continue with the same round robin format.
Resultantly, there would be four teams qualifying for the semi final spot which reduces the quarter finals round from the original schedule. They feel that by doing so, viewers and cricketers would be glued on to what is going on in the tournament. It would also put some more pressure on the players as the importance of each match would be felt.
Every match they play in the group stages of the tournament would determine their fate in the race to make it to the semi finals. That is the thing that the organizers would be aiming to do so from this kind of a format. Previously, it was observed that the players seemed to have taken a casual approach when they were in the group stages.
They did not buck up in the quarters as well. By taking such steps, the organizers feel that they have hit the points which had hurt them the most in the previous edition and hope to correct it this year.
The former champions of the tournament from the Australia, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore have made it to the league. The champions of all the domestic tournaments will be placed in one group while the rest will be in the other group.

The players were in a dilemma last year when most of the teams they played for were included in the league and the choice was left to them. The most significant one that came into limelight was Mike Hussey when he decided to go ahead with the Chennai Super Kings and not play for his Australian team which was a shocker for most of his cricketing fans. So, he would be facing one big challenge in his decision making ability.
