Champions League: Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 vs. Twente Enschede FC - Half time report (Part 2)
Early in the match, Twente FC straight away started on the offence and in the 3rd
minute Heurelho Gomes was forced to make a save as Marc Janko assisted Bryan Ruiz in taking a right footed shot from near the box, but it was saved as the ball travelled to the bottom left corner.
The offence by Twente FC continued as in the 7th minute Denny Landzaat and Theo Janssen struck a combination resulting in from the right, but it was blocked. Following that came a set piece situation as Bryan Ruiz took
another shot, but missed as it went too high and too wide.
Tottenham Hotspurs then woke up and Tom Huddlestone helped Roman Pavlyuchenko in taking a left footed shot, but the ball went inches past the woodwork.
Rafael Van der Vaart came next with a cross in the 14th minute and Peter Crouch as usual won the header, but it got blocked in the end. A minute later Luka Modric passed the ball to Rafael Van der Vaart, who shot the
ball into the bottom right corner, but the goalkeeper was alert enough to make a good save.
In the 22nd minute Nicky Kuiper passed a through ball, but the receiver Emir Bajrami was caught offside. A minute later Rafael Van der Vaart went loose and took an irrational shot that was blasted into the air.
Near to the 30th minute mark, Nicky Kuiper and Marc Janko struck a combo, but they got nowhere as Janko missed his attempt by bare inches. Minute after minute, Twente made plays with Theo Janssen and Bryan Ruiz going
first followed by Bryan Ruiz and Nacer Chadli.
The next bit of excitement came in the 37th minute as Marc Janko was caught offside on a cross from Theo Janssen, but Tottenham came closer as Rafael Van der Vaart assisted brilliantly from a header by Peter Crouch.
In the 39th minute Gareth Bale came up with a moment of brilliance, as he assisted Roman Pavlyuchenko from right outside of the box, but again the goalkeeper showed off his sharp reflexes.
A shocker came in the 40th minute as Nikolay Mihaylov was shown a yellow card and penalty was awarded to the Whites. Rafael Van der Vaart wound up to take it, but failed to capitalise as it was saved on the bottom left
corner.
A disappointed Spurs regrouped, but to no avail as the half was coming to an end. They were indeed frustrated and in the 42nd minute when Rafael Van der Vaart committed a foul. It seemed that Rafael Van der Vaart was
going berserk, as in the 44th minute he took a left footed shot assisted by Benoit Assou-Ekotto but the shot stopper was spot on again.
The break came in a lame fashion, as fouls were committed with Gareth Bale and Ledley King taking free kicks and Roberto Rosales lying on the field complaining.
