Champions League: Tottenham Hotspurs versus Twente Enschede FC 4-1 Analysis and Future Predictions (Part 3)
The second half of the match was the exact opposite of the uneventful first half. The second half started with 0-0 and the men in white were determined to change the score board.
A minute in to the 2nd half Peter Crouch assisted Rafael Van der Vaart in drawing first blood as the Dutch super star controlled the ball superbly before making a brilliant turn and volleying the ball into the back of
the net. This superb comeback from Spurs and Rafael Van der Vaart who had missed a penalty earlier, rejuvenated the men from South London.
In the 49th minute Gareth Bale was fouled by Roberto Rosales in the penalty area and the referee immediately indicated to the penalty spot. Therefore in the 50th minute Roman Pavlyuchenko lined up in front
of the goal to take the shot. He struck the ball into the bottom left corner and scoring.
All this commotion had caused an awakening in the Twente camps and suddenly their men were running around in a frenzy all over the pitch. In the 53rd minute the match got more interesting as Denny Landzaat crossed the
ball to Douglas who headed it into the centre of the box but the attempt was blocked.
In the same minute the Spurs retaliated with a counter attack as Roman Pavlyuchenko took the fast break and passed the ball to Peter Crouch and tried to score and though his attempt was close it went grazing to the right side of
the post.
The next piece of action came in the 56th minute Theo Janssen looked for the opener of Twente as he passed the ball to Marc Janko but his and Douglas’ attempts were blocked by the inexperienced Spurs defence.
In the 56th minute Twente opened their account as Nacer Chadli found himself in a set situation and therefore took full advantage of this, to place the ball in the bottom right corner with his right foot.
Refreshed Twente went on to look for their leveller but Tottenham were at it again and this time they were working even harder to redeem themselves from their earlier mistake. Roman Pavlyuchenko went at it again from the wings
and this time Tom Huddlestone was the person who travelled from the midfield to take a right footed shot.
Foul play continued till the hour mark of the match and that resulted in Rafael Van der Vaart getting his second yellow card when he challenged with an unfair tackle. However that barely dampened the game as two minutes later Spurs
was in the attack again. Gareth Bale and Roman Pavlyuchenko struck a brilliant combination but the shot taken just went passed to the woodwork.
That was followed by another goal by the Spurs in the 64th minute as Nicky Kuiper handed a ball in the penalty area. Roman Pavlyuchenko took the penalty and scored high from his right foot.
This signalled that Spurs could take it lightly now and their substitutions came in as Jermaine Jenas came in for Peter Crouch. Twente took advantage of the newly settling Spurs field with Marc Jankocomeing from the midfield and
Theo Janssen taking the shot.
