Champions League: Tottenham vs. Inter Milan, Spurs Hope for Another Upset
Tottenham Hotspurs will look to do what they couldn’t at the San Siro, defeat Inter Milan. The Spurs came very close a fortnight ago in Italy, scoring 3 goals to lose 4-3 to Benitez’s Milan. They will now try and use the home advantage
at White Hart Lane as they welcome Inter tonight.
In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League fixture, Milan were on fire at the Guiseppe Meazza. They scored four goals and showed no signs of slowing down, but Spurs shocked everyone and made history by scoring three goals at the San
Siro as Gareth Bale became the 11th hour Samaritan to help them salvage some dignity in the defeat.
The 21-year-old midfielder was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch after the half time break, in addition to scoring the three goals he tirelessly worked towards winning the match for his side. But the fact that they were down to
ten men and time was running out left them a goal behind the hosts.
Everyone is now expectantly waiting for Rafa Benitez’s return to England since he left Liverpool. Benitez comes to North London knowing that his side been performing brilliantly in the competition and that a win at White Hart Lane will
see his side advance to the next round with two games in hand.
The home side have received good news in the form of Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart being fit enough to train with the squad. The playmaker suffered a hamstring injury over the weekend against Manchester United and was expected
to be out for this fixture.
First choice keeper Gomes is suspended and will be replaced by former Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini for this fixture. Tom Huddlestone, who was previously out with ankle injury, is expected to make his return tonight.
However, Michael Dawson and Jermain Defoe are out with knee and ankle injury respectively and will be unavailable for this fixture. Younes Kaboul and William Gallas will feature in defence and out of favour Ledley King will probably not
return for the Champions League fixture.
