Champions League: Young Boys Bern v Tottenham Hotspur first half report
Young Boys 3 Tottenham 1
Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League dream is hanging by a thread at half time of their playoff first leg with Young Boys in Bern, but Sébastien Bassong’s away goal has at least given them hope.
Spurs were outclassed by the Swiss opponents for the majority of the half, and fell behind when Bosnian midfielder Senad Lulić reacted quickest to a loose ball to fire the home side ahead after just four minutes.
Worse was the follow for the English side, and when Thierry Doubai set forward Henri Bienvenu away, the Cameroonian outpaced Michael Dawson before coolly slotting his side further ahead after less than a quarter of an hour.
A third followed when Xavier Hochstrasser lost his marker Bassong to power home, but Spurs’ French defender made up for his error by heading in a Gareth Bale corner shortly before the break.
