The former head coach of Cagliari has gone on to remark on his team’s performance against Anderlecht and gave his views on qualifying for the upcoming round of 16.
Milan becomes the first Italian club to qualify for the knockout round of the Champions League and it was courtesy of their victory over the Belgian Champions, Anderlecht. There was a lot of pressure riding on this match, especially given the fact that the Diavolo outfit had drawn blanks in the fixture against the same outfit while they were playing at home. They were booed off the stadium following their performance by the home fans attending at the San Siro.
However, things have changed for the Rossoneri outfit of late, and they have seen the emergence of another star in their ranks, with Stephan El Shaarawy performing to the best of his abilities with the new formation in place. The Rossoneri outfit went on to deploy a 4-3-3 formation with El Shaarawy operating as a wide attacker, and giving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Prince-Boateng-c20792 a chance to join the Diavolo attack in the centre. The formation seemed to work against the Belgian outfit, as the Rossoneri went on to secure the three points in the group stages.
Massimiliano Allegri went on to discuss that he was glad that his boys put in the requisite performance required of them in the match and was also of the opinion that the games in Europe are not easy, regardless of the opponents. He further remarked that it was imperative for their team to get things right, and not let too many counter attacks against them, which would mean that they would have to press their opponents and be better organised.
He was quoted to have said:
“Champions League games are never easy. We knew Zenit’s result, so winning tonight was very important to secure qualification. We have achieved our first target of the season and the lads fully deserved it. We suffered at times and got the final ball wrong at times, but only really risked on the counter-attack and on set plays. We should’ve done better in defence after they went down to 10 men, as they were throwing crosses in there and hoping for the best.”
Milan have qualified for the group stages and it is yet to be decided who they will come up against.
