Champions to compete for Dunhill Links
The world’s best golfers will gather this year at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie in Scotland to contest for one of the richest golf tournaments due to be held from 7th-10th October.
Three of this season’s major winners will also be among the contenders for the 10th Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with a purse of $5,000,000. Among them would be the 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell and USPGA championship grabber Martin Kaymer. They relate the St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie courses each with a different story. According to the 27-year-old Oosthuizen, he is very excited by his return to the courses that had previously given him love and recognition. In fact, he would be looking forward for yet another experience there which he can take along with him. Oosthuizen added that winning the upcoming tournament would double his delight.
As for the Irish McDowell, although, he won at the Pebbles Beach but still remembers his terrible defeat at old course in 2004 where he lost the playoff to Stephen Gallacher. However, the 31-year-old said that despite being one of the toughest golf courses in the world, they are still his favorite as they add a whole new variety of challenge to his career. On the other hand, the South African, Kaymer won at the same courses which means his memories are not bitter but he is yet to make some memory there.
The unique aspect of Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is that unlike other championships it is divided into two parts. The first part is an individual professional tournament in which all the best golfers play while during the second part teams are formed. Each team comprises of one professional and one amateur player. The result of this whole set up is a unique atmosphere with a sense of competition and partnership at the same time. Secondly, the amateurs tend to learn with the presence of a professional playing next to them.
As for the spectators, the entrance will be free of cost at all the three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, a ticket price of £15 will be charged for the fourth round at the Old Course which will be held on Sunday, the 10th of October. Entry would be entirely free for children under 16 and also the students but to avail this opportunity identity verification will be required.
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship would surely be a complete pack of entertainment as Oosthuizen’s birdie will be answered by McDowell’s eagle and if Kaymer misses some birdie putt he will most probably be charged by a very tough competition.
