I am in 7th grade (yes done with puberty) and I am one of the better 800 runners around. I get around 2:25. My PR is 2:24.44. How should I train this week. How should I eat. I usually start to get tired after 300 meters but then adreniline kicks in. I am pretty consistent with 75 and 74 splits. I would really like to win this meet. This would mean I am one of the best in the state of Ohio. If you help me out you can say you trained me. Ha hey if you wanna see my time e-mail me at jjpistonsjj@yahoo.com and Ill give you the times of the meet.

I would appreciate that very much

P.S Its Sunday night and the meet is next Sunday.

  1. eat carbs and protein.  Dont have really hard workouts before your race, you dont want to be sore.  Maybe a hard workout tomorrow or early this week, like some sprints.  During you race, just go out and try to keep a good pace.  If there is someone near you or faster than you in the race, go out and catch them and try to stay with them for the race, then at the end (last 100 or 200 meters) start speeding up and pass them (be careful, they will also speed up).  Your a great runner, hope you win.  Let me know how it goes.

  2. Carb-loading will help a little for the 800 since the race is half aerobic and half anaerobic. So I would stress eating something high in carbs, like pasta, but not too much that you feel slow the next day. Btw, for an 7th grader, a 2:24 is good, and you should expect below 2:00 if you work on it through high school. Btw, even if you are done with puberty, you still grow a bit, just a bit slower.
