Championship ready to take on opponents in Coventry Stakes – Horseracing News
Championship is set to represent his camp in the Coventry Stakes at the Royal Ascot, where some of his stable mates have already made history in the past. It will not be easy for him to achieve what they did, but he will definitely
not make life easy for his rivals.
Talking about the young challenger, trainer Richard Hannon said, “He was sent off favourite on his debut in what I think will turn out to be a good Newbury maiden.”
He added, “He did a very pleasing piece of work last week and Hughsie (jockey) has chosen to ride him in the Coventry Stakes. We run a few in the race and I can't split them, but he's Hughsie’s preference.”
Since Championship has appeared in just one race until now, he will be under immense pressure at the moment. At the same time, this will be an opportunity for him to make a name for himself. If he succeeds in this Group 2 encounter,
he will definitely be seen as one of the potential winners at the highest level.
However, things will not be easy for the two-year-old colt, as he will have to weather the storm from some of the other quality runners. One of them will be Stubbs, who is considered to be the favourite to win the all important
event. He too is not much experienced but his confidence level is way better than his opponents.
The Aidan O’Brien’s challenger made his debut this season and was really impressive in his first ever outing. Although he failed to claim a victory back then, he managed to secure the third spot on a testing ground. This encouraged
his camp to run him in a couple of better competitions and he was up to the task, winning both races. If he succeeds in the Coventry Stakes, he will record the first hat-trick of his career.
Looking at the ground conditions at Ascot, it is clear that the competition will be a strong one, as the going has been described as good by the organisers. Therefore, none of the stallions will opt to sit out of the event, which
is a positive sign.
