Championship round-up – Mackie seals incredible QPR comeback
With 92 minutes on the clock and two goals down against Derby at Pride Park it looked as though QPR’s unbeaten start to the season was coming to an end, but dramatic late strikes from Patrick Agyemang and Jamie Mackie rescued a point and kept them top of the Championship.
“I thought we dominated the game from the 96th to the 97th minute,” QPR manager Neil Warnock told the BBC after the game, which emphasised how much his side was outplayed for the majority of the game. Goals from Kris Commons and youngster James Bailey had given Derby the lead before Rangers’ amazing comeback.
The Rams manager, Nigel Clough, felt the result was harsh on his players, He told the club’s official site: "It's frustrating. We played so well for so long and then we got punished at the end but that's been the story of the last three league games.
"I thought that we should have finished it off and made it 3-1 in stoppage time, but at the moment, we can't finish games off and we can't quite hang on at the other end."
QPR are joined at the top of the table by Cardiff and Ipswich, who both continued their unbeaten run with 2-0 victories over Portsmouth and Bristol City, respectively.
Hull manager Nigel Pearson was taken to hospital with chest pains ahead of his side’s match with Doncaster and he was dealt a further blow as his side lost 3-1. James Coppinger, Billy Sharp and Martin Woods grabbed the goals for the home side, Nicky Barmby replied for the visitors, who thankfully have announced today that Pearson has been discharged from hospital and will return to work this week.
Millwall also registered a 3-1 victory at the expense of Coventry, who probably will point the finger of blame at midfielder Carl Baker who stupidly got himself sent off, receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away, while the scores were level at 1-1. Wales international Steve Morison continued to impress for the Lions as he scored one and set up the other two as Millwall kept up their good start to the season.
