Chan/Date-Krumm oust Hsu/Lee to enter semis – OEC Ladies Open 2012
Third seeds, Taiwan’s Chin-Wei Chan and Kimiko Date-Krumm, trashed the local wild card entrants, Ching-Wen Hsu and Ya-Hsuan Lee, in straight sets at the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open 2012 on Thursday. They joggled up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against the Taiwanese
tandem to book a spot in the final four at this maiden WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) 125 event taking place in Chinese Taipei.
The Taiwanese-Japanese collaboration showed exceptional skills to outsmart Hsu and Lee in their first meeting. They dropped their serve three times but cashed six out of eight break chances, eventually carving out the victory in 56 minutes and advancing
into the final four at this indoor carpet event.
Chan and Date-Krumm made a drastic entry at the Taipei Arena. They suffered the first blow in the opening game and trailed at 0-1. Despite recovering in the very next game, the Taiwanese-Japanese pair lost their serve again and subsequently went 1-3 down.
However, they went berserk after that and reeled off five games in a row, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three. They dusted away four out of six breakpoints they faced and converted three out of five break chances to their advantage.
The high spirited junction of Chan and Date-Krumm maintained their intensity in the following set. They wiped out the opening four games in a row before the local challengers could come on the score sheet again. Regardless of losing their serve in the sixth
game, the Taiwanese-Japanese junction capitalised on another break opportunity in the very next game and consequently clinched the set with a 6-2 score line. They brilliantly brushed off five out of six breakpoints they came across and cashed all three break
chances to earn the fame.
Next up for Chan and Date-Krumm are the second seeds, Taiwan’s Kai-Chen Chang and Belarus’ Olga Govortsova. The Taiwanese-Belarusian junction bounced back to outclass the French-Russian pair, Caroline Garcia and Irina Khromacheva, in a three-set thriller
to set up this meeting. The higher seeds were broken once but cashed two out of 10 break chances, eventually formulating a 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-5 score line in one hour and 28 minutes.
