Chan Jae Jang wins 7th (b) stage as Amir Zargari wraps up overall lead in 2011 Tour of Singkarak
Terengganu Pro-Asia cycling team’s Chan Jae Jang won the seventh (b) stage and his team-mate, Amir Zargari, retained his overall leader’s yellow jersey on Sunday, June 12.
The race started in Danau Kembar and ended in Danau Singkarak. The Korean, Chan Jae Jang, took a total of 1 hour, 28 minutes and 15 seconds to cover a distance of 70.8 kilometres.
After winning the final stage, Chan said, "I tried my best to win the stage. I started to make an attack in the last 500 meters."
Projo Waseso of United Bike Kencana – Malang and Shih Hsin Hsiao of Action Cycling were in second and third places.
Martijn Knol of the Global cycling team tried his best to catch the 57 cyclists, but he failed and grabbed the 58th spot with a difference of 16 seconds.
A group of four cyclists made their first breakaway, including, Chan Jae Jang, Projo Waseso, Shih Hsin Hsiao and Takeaki Ayabe. The last two riders were caught by the peloton and Herwin maintained his pace, but Jang had good legs so, he crossed the finish line ahead of other riders with 18 points.
Agung Alisyahbana of Prima Utama - Pelatnas SEA Gamesred took red-and-white jersey as the best Indonesian rider with timing of 18 hours, 4 minutes and 39 seconds.
Agung said, “Despite the result, the tour has proven to be a great warm-up for us, the national team cyclists, before competing in the Southeast Asian Games [in November].”
Amir Zargari took overall classification with the timing of 17 hours, 52 minutes and 1 second. Rahim Emami was in second spot with 16 seconds behind Amir.
Previously, Amir took second spot in the first stage of Jelajah Malaysia in 2009 and grabbed the second place in general classification of Tour of d’Inodonesia in 2008.
Amir told the media, “I’ve been in this tour since it was inaugurated in 2009, so this is a great victory for me, the team has also been working hard to help me win this.”
Golakhour Pourseyedi finished third, while the stage winner, Jang, was in the 35th place with a difference of 33 minutes and 5 seconds.
