Chan Peng Soon, Lim Khim Wah to join hands in 2012 China Open – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Doubles experts Chan Peng Soon and Lim Khim Wah will represent the country as Men’s Doubles team in China Open, set to be held in Shanghai from November 13, 2012.
National Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her confirmed the news while briefing the media that both shuttlers will be swinging arms together to revive their old chemistry.
However, he stated that the partnership of Peng Soon and Khim Wah will be tested in local tournaments before fielding them in prestigious team event like China Open.
He said, “Their first tournament together will be in the China Open because I want to see how they perform in local tournaments first.”
Earlier, Khim Wah was playing with Goh V Shem and the duo climbed up to 28th spot in the World rankings.
Both shuttlers earned great respect for raising their country’s flag across the globe but this season did not bring much for them as they kept struggling at international level and came under fire for dishing out poor performances.
V Shem felt the heat and showed his intentions to leave the partnership. The badminton guru Kim Her admitted that both national campaigners were not comfortable with each other and this ultimately forced them to take unusual steps.
He said, “I want to try out some things. There are trust issues among some players and that is something that has to change.”
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) decided to undergo a make-break pair exercise and now Khim Wah will be fielded with his old partner Peng Soon while V Shem is expected to have Ong Jian Guo.
Kim Her hoped that Khim Wah-Peng Soon will utilise their valuable experience and they will be hoping to live up to the expectations in coming tournaments.
He said, “Peng Soon and Khim Wah have played as a pair before and I believe they can do well if given the chance.”
Both Men’s Doubles experts played together for couple of years and they also claimed a national title after thrashing V Shem-Jian Guo in 2008.
However, Peng Soon started giving all the attentions to his Mixed Doubles career and this led them to a separation in 2009.
At the moment, Malaysia is banking on World Number six pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong in Men’s Doubles department.
BAM put an interesting strategy into action and introduced reformed pairs in Pahang Open to increase their talent pool.
Earlier, there were talks that Association is toying with the idea to set up new partnerships of Boon Heong-V Shem and Kien Keat-Khim Wah but Kim Her talked down such rumours and told that top Malaysian teams have been given one more year to prove their
worth.
