Malaysia’s top Mixed Doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying will face Indonesian shuttlers in the group
match between Indonesia and Malaysia in the Sudirman Cup, in China, on May 25, 2011.
Chan Peng and Goh Liu have been playing well for the last six months in many national and international events.
In the today’s match against Indonesia, the Malaysian couple has to be at their best, as the Indonesians also belong to the highest level of the game.
Chan Peng and Goh Liu did not play well in their match against the Russian couple on Monday, May 23. They remained
under pressure in the entire match and could not dominate the game.
National coach for Double team, Rexy Mainaky said, “Peng Soon-Liu Ying are still young and they did not handle
the pressure well (against Russia and lost the match).”
The coach also said that winning a point in the Mixed Doubles will increase Malaysia’s chances to win the match.
Rexy said, “Usually, the mixed doubles is the first match of a tie and the duo have to be mentally strong to get
the team to a good start. They have a lot of potential to succeed and let’s hope that they will do well.”
Malaysia is expecting to clinch the points in the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles categories, as Lee Chong Wei
in Singles and Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong in Doubles, are the favourites to win their matches against Indonesian players.
The Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Indonesian team has more strength when compared to Malaysia.
If Chan Peng and Goh Liu manage to win their opening fight against the Indonesian couple, Malaysia will be in
a strong position to win the match.
The winner of the match between Malaysia and Indonesia will secure the top position in Group B and will not meet
the defending champions, China, in the quarter-final of the Sudirman Cup, which is the biggest team event in the world of Badminton.
