Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying win Mixed Doubles title in National Grand Prix Finals
Malaysia’s Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying clinch the Mixed Doubles title in the National Grand Prix Finals. The duo crushed Tan Wee Kiong and Woon Khe Wei in the final showdown on Saturday, October 15, at Juara Stadium, Malaysia.
Peng Soon and Liu Ying, who are currently placed at the 17th position in the Mixed Doubles world standings, played to their full potential and controlled the game in the entire match. They spared no chance for their opponents and won the battle
in straight sets.
In the first set, Peng Soon and Liu Ying worked really well with a wonderful coordination throughout the game. They maintained pressure on their rivals throughout the set by playing attacking badminton and remained successful in taking the first game with
a 21-15 score on the board.
In the second game in the final of national event, Wee Kiong and Khe Wei tried to put up strong show by accelerating their speed but their opponents were stronger in all areas of the game. Peng Soon and Liu Ying played killing game as they executed powerful
smashes in the whole game together with net killings.
The positive and aggressive play of Peng Soon and Liu Ying helped them to win the second game with a wonderful score of 21-14. This final match ended in straight games with a one-sided score of 21-15 and 21-14.
After the match, Peng Soon said, “It feels great to finally win the title after twice losing in the final. I hope that we’ll be able to maintain our performance in order to qualify for the Olympics.”
The next assignment of Peng Soon and Liu Ying will be Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which will start from October 18, at Odense, Denmark. They are expected to meet China’s Zhao Yunlei and Zhang Nan in the second round of the event.
Peng Soon said, “It will definitely be hard to beat the Chinese pair. But I believe that they are not unbeatable as we managed to give them quite a fight the last time we met.”
A good performance at the Denmark Open will earn them precious ranking points which will help them to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
