Chan Peng Soon recuperates from injury, ready to shine at the 2011 Badminton World Championships
Malaysia’s Men’s and Mixed Doubles shuttler, Chan Peng Soon, recuperated from an injury and is ready to shine at the 2011 Badminton World Championships, starting on August 8 in London, England.
Chan Peng will compete in two categories including Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles, at the mega event next week. He has been performing well in the training camp at the University of Bath for the last nine days.
Throughout the training sessions, he felt no pain in his back indicating that his injury no longer exists. The Malaysian shuttler is fully prepared to take up the challenge and perform well at the World Championships.
The 23-year-old Chan Peng will play with Goh Liu Ying in the Mixed Doubles category and with Lim Khim Wah in the category of Men’s Doubles. Chan Peng and Goh Liu are currently ranked at Number 18 in the Mixed Doubles world rankings, whereas, in Men’s Doubles
standings, Chan Peng and Lim Khim are ranked at Number 37.
While talking about his training and physical conditions, Chan Peng said, “I was not able to train full-time in Malaysia but, since arriving here, I have been able to follow the drills. I did not feel any pain on my back. I am probably 80% healed. I can
move more freely and whatever I experience now is more tolerable. So, it is good for me.”
Chan Peng further expressed about the back injury he received three months before and said, “I was quite tormented. I was worried about the future and also for my partner. I felt that I was letting her down. I wanted to get well but the injury slowed me
down. It put undue pressure on me.”
The shuttler is now determined to play to his full potential in both Men’s and Mixed Doubles categories in the mega event. He is much relaxed now as the back injury will not disturb his performance at the World Championships.
