Chan Yih-Shin eyes a successful title defence at the Venetian Macau Open
Chan Yih-Shin of Chinese Taipei is relishing the opportunity of returning to the field of the Venetian Macau Open, where he recorded a victory last year.
This year, he plans to win it for the second time in a row and end his season on a high note.
Last year, the 35-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career on the Asian Tour, as he finished 14th in the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.
This year, he has not been able to impress his fans, especially with a record of 10 missed cuts in 11 events that he has played so far.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he struggled to maintain his form throughout this season.
Whenever he posts a good score in a round, he follows it with a faltering performance and gets out of contention.
Therefore, lack of consistency is the key factor behind his poor performances in the past. However, he plans to make a U-turn this week at the Macau Golf and Country Club, the venue course for the second Asian Tour victory of his career.
Last year, he accumulated a total of US$192,623 as prize money. This year, he has not been able to reach even the five figures – his prize money amounts to US$1,171 in the current season.
“Somehow I’ve been feeling tired after playing in a few tournaments. I don’t know why,” he said. “But every good player does not make this a reason. Good players will continue to practice hard and earn more wins instead of making excuses”.
“I need to work harder on my game and if the putter gets going, then I know I can contend again,” he added.
“My season has been a mixed bag. There are days when I shoot under par and there are days when I blow up. That’s been the story for me. It is really disappointing but I have to work to keep improving”.
According to him, the key to a successful defence at the venue course will be a strong putting technique.
He told that the greens were really tricky and can offer a strong challenge to the payers competing in the tournament.
Therefore, he will have to remain focused on his short game, rather than attacking the pins while reaching the greens.
