Chan Yih-Shin finishes tied for the third position at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters
Chan Yih-Shin, put up a spectacular show of top class golf at the 2012 Mercuries Taiwan Masters, to take the share of the third position, on Sunday, September 30, in Chinese Taipei
He carded a one-under par 71 in the final round, at the Taiwan Golf & Country Club, for a one-over par tournament score.
Yih-Shin played amazingly well, especially when he was having the poorest form of his career on the Asian Tour. He missed the cut in each of the last 10 tournaments that he played before last week’s event in Taipei.
During the final round, he was the only player in the field who came close to the winner Tsai Chi-Huang on the leaderboard.
Chi-Huang faltered in the final round and carded a four-over par 76, for a four-under par tournament score.
Yih-Shin, in the meantime, had a two-under par score, standing on the 16th tee. Therefore, he only needed a couple of birdies to force the game to enter the sudden-death playoffs.
However, the tough course conditions did not allow the Taiwanese to reach his target, as he missed the par putt on the 16th green for a bogey.
On the 18th hole, he once again faltered and conceded a double, which dragged him down from the second position to the tied third spot on the leaderboard.
Despite making a poor finish, he was happy with his overall performance in the tournament. He stated that he will try to keep the momentum going into the rest of the Asian Tour season.
According to him, it was a perfect time to regain his form, as he is scheduled to defend the Macau Open title in two weeks.
Therefore, he only needs to focus on his natural game. Moreover, he should tweak his game, especially his putting, if he wants a successful defence of his title that he won last year.
“It was disappointing to double bogey the last hole. I had a bad lie for my second shot and two putted. I knew I was making a good run but I’m happy with how I finished. I can carry this confidence into the rest of the year,” he said.
